The Castro and 17th pilot project has been a smashing success, at least from my point of view. There’s no other public gathering place in the Castro to just hang out with friends, cruise, or eat your Zapata burrito. The problem is, the temporary structures that have in place since May are starting to look like a bit of an eye sore. The planters look like cardboard tubes with scrawny trees planted in them. It’s not a pretty sight! The area has so much potential. It’s time to make this pedestrian area permanent!
I was walking through the area on Wednesday night and noticed this sign on one of the cardboard planters. I visited the URL on the bottom of the sign, but I don’t see any new information. Here’s hoping the City is finally moving to turn the area into a permanent common area, complete with non-cardboard looking planters. We’ll keep checking the URL and will report back with any updates.
