Mexico City assembly legalizes same-sex marriage
Congrats to our friends south of the border! Mexico City is now city the first in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage. Buenos Aires legalized same-sex civil unions in 2002 and Uruguay has legalized civil unions nationwide. Now we’re up to seven countries and counting that currently allow gay marriages: Canada, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and Belgium. Read more here.
Castro Commons: Make it permanent!
The Castro and 17th pilot project has been a smashing success, at least from my point of view. There’s no other public gathering place in the Castro to just hang out with friends, cruise, or eat your Zapata burrito. The problem is, the temporary structures that have in place since May are starting to look like a bit of an eye sore. The planters look like cardboard tubes with scrawny trees planted in them. It’s not a pretty sight! The area has so much potential. It’s time to make this pedestrian area permanent! More »

Photo Blogging: Castro Halloween 2009
The “official” Castro Halloween was cancelled a couple years back because of some downright frightening crimes perpetrated by a bunch of out of town thugs. However, plenty of party goers showed up on Saturday night to show off their ghoulish and campy costumes. Revelers had a fantastic time as SFPD kept a watchful eye for any shenanigans. Check out some of the great costumes from this year’s “unofficial” festivities. More »
Dot.GAY?
Spotted this over on Edge. The Dot Gay Alliance, a group of gay and gay-friendly social entrepreneurs, is seeking approval of a LGBT domain identifiable by its suffix. The purpose of the establishing the top-level domain is to provide “a reliable and ethical source of funding for LGBT civil rights.” According to the group “51% of all profits earned will be returned to the LGBT community in the form of grants to leading civil rights organizations.” Sounds great but adoption of less popular top-level domains hasn’t exactly been through roof with the majority of people purchasing them primarily to protect their .com offering. In addition many view any business that doesn’t own a dot.com extension as an amateur. What are your thoughts? Read the full story here.

Long time supporter of the LGBT community Absolute has removed the label from it’s iconic bottle as part of it’s latest iniative — In an ABSOLUT World, There Are No Labels. The limited edition naked bottle launched globally this month featuring only a small removable sticker encouraging consumers to discard their labels and to visit absolut.com/nolabel.
