Castro Commons: Make it permanent!

Nov 28th, 09 in Community, The Castro by Mark

The Castro and 17th pilot project has been a smashing success, at least from my point of view. There’s no other public gathering place in the Castro to just hang out with friends, cruise, or eat your Zapata burrito. The problem is, the temporary structures that have in place since May are starting to look like a bit of an eye sore. The planters look like cardboard tubes with scrawny trees planted in them. Photo Blogging: Castro Halloween 2009

Nov 1st, 09 in Community, Photo Blogging, The Castro by Mark

The “official” Castro Halloween was cancelled a couple years back because of some downright frightening crimes perpetrated by a bunch of out of town thugs. Check out some of the great costumes from this year’s “unofficial” festivities. More »

R.I.P. Castro Halloween

Oct 16th, 09 in Community, The Castro by Mark

According to SFPD’s press release today, Halloween in the Castro remains dead and buried again this year.

There will be no City-sponsored venue in the Castro district for Halloween, Saturday, October 31. There will be no official entertainment provided and no street closures are planned.

The San Francisco Police Department will be enforcing a zero-tolerance policy regarding public drinking and any other criminal activity. Those violating laws prohibiting the consumption of alcohol in public will be subject to arrest.
